We would like to share a few things about the history of Anchor Christian Homes. The organization was established as the Anchor Canadian Reformed Association for the Handicapped. We are a registered charity run by a Board of Directors. Our basis is Holy Scripture, as summarized in the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism and the Canons of Dort.
In 1976 a group of Canadian Reformed parents met in Hamilton, Ontario to discuss the possibility of setting up a home for the care and support of their children with special needs. Most of these individuals with a disability lived in their parental homes, while some lived in institutions or other group homes.
Over time, it became clear that there was a need for consistency. It was determined that, as an extension of the ministry of mercy, the church would assist in this care.
The Anchor Association was established seeking to support individuals with developmental disabilities, providing suitable housing in a group setting.
In 1980 Anchor Summer Camp was started to provide relief to parents and create an enjoyable time for the participants. Today some 60 participants with a disability, supported by as many volunteers, have the opportunity to enjoy 12 days at the beautiful Campfire! property in Markdale, Ontario.

First home opened: Anchor Home in Beamsville (now known as Grimsby), Ontario
Second home opened: Twin Oaks in Burlington, Ontario
The Anchor Association welcomed the United Reformed churches to its membership.
Third home opened: Beacon Home in Dunnville, Ontario
Fourth home opened: The Lighthouse in Fergus, Ontario
Fifth home opened: Harbour Home in Hamilton, Ontario
The name of the organization was changed to Anchor Christian Homes.
Sixth Home is purchased in Guelph Ontario
